Forum Week 5

1. My favorite photo story was the "Motel Dad" story. The most compelling part was how dirty they looked, and how messy their room was. It shows that they have a lot more to worry about than cleanliness.
2. It was probably hard for the photographer to find a struggling family willing to show their vulnerability like that. Another challenge the photographer may have faced were the moral aspects of it. They had to watch the kids suffer and live a poor lifestyle. The photographer may have been able to do something to help them, but it may have involved the children being removed from their parents.
3. Every photo highlights the despair this family is living through. It shows tired, unbathed parents, trying tirelessly to maintain their unruly kids in their disheveled motel room. Everything in these photos screams STRUGGLE.
4. They had to dedicate five years of their life to following the family and documenting their lifestyle.
5. This photographer did a great job of catching the family in candid moments which I hope to do in my photo story.

Who: Edgar Garcia
What: Knee Surgery/ Recovery
When: He'll be getting surgery sometime in the next few weeks
Where: The hospital (to an extent) and his house etc.
Process: Edgar is one of my best friends so I plan on helping him through his recovery anyway. Hopefully there will be some good moments to document on the way. He hopes to recover quickly in order to do wild-land firefighting this summer, so it will be interesting to document.

Who: Kase Allouzi
What: The life of Islam in America.
When: In the next few weeks
Where: In his home and around Corvallis
Process: Kase actually came to me with hopes of making a mini documentary about the life of Islam in America. It would be fun to document the highlights that make his life a little different each day in photos.
